COUNSELING - THIS MONTH:

Welcome our NEW Counselor - Ms. Maurer

Picture
Hi Falcons! My name is Melissa Maurer and I am so excited to be joining the RHS family as the counselor for students with last names Br-Da. I am coming to you from Stevenson High School in Utica Community Schools. I have also previously done intervention and counseling work at Dakota High School and Henry Ford II High School. I went to Michigan State University for my Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology (which you can tell from all the Spartan décor in my office :) ) and then went to Oakland University for my Master’s Degree in School Counseling. My favorite part about counseling is building relationships with my students. My goal is to support all my students with their academic and personal needs.  Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you need anything. I am looking forward to meeting you all! :)

ACE MENTOR PROGRAM

Do you enjoy working with your hands? Are you a big thinker? Do you enjoy working in groups on how to find solutions to problems? Here's an opportunity that might interest you. It's free and includes the possibility of earning college credits. The SE Michigan ACE Mentor Program is an afterschool program (Monday - Wednesday 6:30 - 8) where industry professionals teach high school students about careers in industry. You work on a team of 5-6 students with 2-4 mentors and work together to solve something. For example, to envision and redesign the space vacated by Joe Lewis Arena. This might start with geo-technical - testing dirt, on to blue prints with an architect, construction, engineering, and on. You move through the trades with industry mentors and they teach you about each of these pieces. This is project based learning and starts Jan 2021 and ends in May. The program will help you dual enroll (for FREE) at Lawrence Tech and earn 3 college credits that can be transferred to most universities. You'll get a loaner laptop with all needed software. This is open to students in grades 9-12. After reviewing the links and if you have questions, please ask Ms. O'Toole-Seyka
