Congratulations FEDS!

Picture

Congratulations to the FEDS for winning the Chairman’s Award at the District Center Line Event!
The Chairman’s Award is the most prestigious award at FIRST, it honors the team that best represents a model for other teams to emulate and best embodies the mission of FIRST. It was created to keep the central focus of FIRST Robotics Competition on the ultimate goal of transforming the culture in ways that will inspire greater levels of respect and honor for science and technology, as well as encouraging more of today’s youth to become science and technology leaders. The Chairman’s Award is presented to the team judged to best exemplify the true meaning of FIRST through measurable impact on participants, school, and community at large with emphasis on promoting science and technology through FIRST programs.

The FIRST Robotics Competition is not about machines; it is about the experience of people working together toward a shared goal.

This is the third year that the FEDS have submitted the essays and prepared the presentation material for the Chairman’s award. All that hard work finally paid off and we won after a virtual judging of the Center Line Event submissions!  The FEDS Mentors and Students would like to thank Rochester High School’s administration for supporting all the FTC and FLL teams meeting in our school.  This enabled the FEDS to spread the message of FIRST to all of our feeder schools, resulting in thousands of outreach hours and dozens of new FIRST teams. We’d also like to thank RCS, our sister teams in Rochester United (CyberCats & AdamBots), and all of our generous sponsors!

Update on Remote Learning

Dear RCS Families and Staff Members,
Welcome back from spring break! As you are aware, due to the coronavirus (COVID-19), the state of Michigan continues to be on a “Stay Home, Stay Safe” order from the governor. All school buildings are closed for the remainder of the 2019-20 school year.

In compliance with the executive order, RCS has submitted a plan for remote learning to Oakland Schools, our local intermediate school district, and the plan has been approved. Therefore, we will continue with the same remote learning schedule for secondary students that we have used since March 20. Click here to view online class access codes.

Our goal is to provide meaningful learning opportunities for students based on their current course schedule. Students are encouraged to complete the activities/tasks provided by teachers. Attendance will be taken. A student will be counted as “attending” whenever there is teacher contact, such as an assignment returned, participation in a class meeting, an email, etc.

Calendar dates for the remainder of the year:
  • Remote School Resumes:  April 13, 2020
  • Final Day for Seniors:  May 15, 2020
  • Memorial Day - no classes: May 25, 2020
  • Final Day for all students:  June 5, 2020
Picture
*Support hours are reserved for contact with counselors, learning consultants, teacher consultants, speech pathologists, social workers, psychologists, interventionists,  or special education therapists.
Teachers will post material or email students by 8:00 a.m. each day that a class period is in session.
We anticipate teachers will include material such as notes, videos, instruction, class discussions, or provide other learning opportunities.

Expectations of Secondary Students:
  • Check the district’s student email accounts and/or Remind texts daily about coursework, lessons, and/or content.  Students should receive information from teachers based on the schedule of daily interactions above.
  • Use proper netiquette for online learning (see below).
  • Attendance will be taken; you are encouraged to participate as much as you can.
  • No letter grades will be given during remote learning. Students will receive feedback on submitted work, and work may be graded on a pass/fail basis.
  • At the end of the semester, students will receive a G (pass/credit) or an H (fail/no credit). This will be based on the participation and the work submitted. This will not impact a student’s GPA either positively or negatively.
  • If a student does not understand something, he/she can contact the teacher the same day, if possible. Please understand teachers may not be able to respond right away.
  • We ask for patience if a student does not receive communication from a teacher on the day of the class.
 Netiquette Reminders:
  • Use respectful behavior and language.
  • Stick to appropriate topic discussions.
  • Wear school appropriate clothing when attending meetings via video.
  • Be honest. Do not plagiarize or copy others’ work.
  • Treat others online as you would want to be treated in person.

For all technology questions, including the need for devices, please go to the front page of the district website at www.rochester.k12.mi.us, and click on the large red tab titled "Click here for Information on Remote Learning," or click HERE.

Important Information for AP testing
There has been a lot of information provided by College Board to students who are taking an upcoming online AP test.  Below are important resources for students and families:

The first of this process is for students to check the email address they have on file with College Board (in their AP account).  This is the email that testing information is sent to.
After confirming your email address, the most comprehensive document to read on testing is here.  It is long, but very detailed.  Most questions can be answered if you read though this testing guide thoroughly:
 https://apcentral.collegeboard.org/pdf/ap-testing-guide-2020.pdf?SFMC_cid=EM305178-&rid=47388674

On testing day this checklist is suggested for students to follow.
