NO SCHOOL - MEMORIAL DAY

There will be no school Monday, May 27 due to Memorial Day.

SPOTLIGHT ON INSTRUCTION

This week, U.S. History classes at RHS taught by Mrs. Kara Sears, Mrs. Christina Bettes, Mrs. Caylan Healy, and Mrs. Sarah Miesch, got the opportunity to hear from a Vietnam War veteran as part of their unit on the Vietnam War. Guest speaker Mr. Hal Commerson, who also taught and coached at RHS, discussed his experiences in the war and how it impacted his life. Through this, the students were better able to understand what this war was really like and gain more knowledge about it by asking Mr. Commerson questions. These sophomores had the opportunity to see how what they are learning about in class connects to the real world.

ART VISITS COLLEGE FOR CREATIVE STUDIES

On Wednesday, May 15th, Rochester High School Art teachers, Mrs. Rose, Mrs. Huvaere and Miss Merriman took 45 students on a field trip to Detroit to check out the latest and greatest art happening in the city. The first stop on the list was the College for Creative Studies where they viewed the annual student exhibit which included a variety of 2-d and 3-d art work, photography and conceptual design work from current and graduating college students. Next on the list was the Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit where students were able to view the famous artist Kaws giant cartoon like sculptures. After lunch at Mootz Pizzeria we took a stroll through the local famous “belt” where students enjoyed the many photo opportunities. The trip concluded with a bus tour through eastern market to see the giant murals that abound the city.
