Deputy Curtis would like to remind everyone that as the weather gets warmer, please make sure you continue safety when your driving. I have noticed students beginning to drive in the parking lots using less awareness and caution. Please slow down and be courteous to all fellow drivers. Remember that in all circumstances that if you are involved in any type of vehicle accident, with any other vehicle that by law, you must stop and identify yourself to the other driver! Also, the exit on Livernois Rd from the junior lot, is a single lane exit and all students MUST remain in a single file to await exiting southbound. Have a great upcoming week Falcons!!

The topic this year was "Vielfalt Gewinnt" (diversity wins) and students created works based on that motto. Our students had a great time exploring all the posters, comics, artwork and videos prepared by them and other schools throughout the state. Some of the works received recognition by the German Day Committee.

New Feature for Reporting Absences

We are excited to try a new feature in ParentVUE for reporting all-day absences using ParentVue via a web browser or the mobile app. For now, this pilot will be open for all students in grades 6–12 and is now live in ParentVUE. Since this is a pilot, we appreciate your patience as we fine-tune the settings and process. We would also love to hear your feedback if you get a chance to try this new way of reporting absences. Click the PDF below for instructions and details on this process.
Reporting absences through ParentVUE is completely optional. You may still choose to contact the RHS attendance office as you have before. Partial day absences will still need to be called in to the attendance office.
For ParentVUE tech support and feedback, please email rcsvuehelp@rochester.k12.mi.us.

Spotlight on Instruction

Picture
Mr. Lewis’ Woodworking 1 class is learning how to use hand tools safely as they construct wood joints.  This is the first of three, wood joint constructions leading up to the required Woods 1 project. While working with hand tools, they will be learning and applying safe operating procedures of woodworking machines, accompanying their new knowledge, and application of hand tools. Students will engage with all machines and areas of woodworking while constructing a project picked by the class.  Mr. Lewis speaks to the interdisciplinary approach to these projects.  In addition to the skills of woodworking such as project planning, measuring, and layout, students use math and science skills as well. For example, students learned how the biological growth of a tree contribute to the grain structure and application of wood. Mr. Lewis mentions students are, “learning how to understand”. When they run into problems, they have to think critically and be ready to problem solve. As students are engaged with challenging tasks, they continue to experience deep and powerful learning.
