RHS Peer Mentors
Peer mentors in Mrs. Campbell and Ms. Dodge's classes use the compass points thinking routine to dive into learning about peer mentoring. This strategy served as an anticipatory set to learning about how to best work with students of all abilities. An awesome way to bring thinking to the table!
8th Grade Dates
Spotlight on Instruction
Mrs. Rosell’s AP Chemistry class clearly sees learning a consequence of thinking. Her students enjoyed investigating with heat and temperature during a science lab experience. Students conducted a scripted lab to set the stage for a control group, and were then challenged to create and find the greatest decrease in temperature of a solution by modifying one variable at time, with the number of tries limited to two. You could hear students asking critical questions that were driving their thinking and learning. Their curiosity led to deeper understanding and a more self-directed learner. To promote the idea that learning and thinking are as much a collective enterprise as they are an individual endeavor, Mrs. Rosell announced the first round of modifications occurred and suggested students speak to other group members for new insights. Creating a community where supporting one another as learners is certainly valued here.
