Congratulations Dance Team!

The Rochester Varsity Dance Team competed on Sunday 12/15 in the Reaction Dance Force competition, hosted by Stoney Creek High School.  Our team brought back their best finishes to date, with 2nd place in Large Varsity Jazz, 1st place in Varsity Pom, and earned the award of Grand Champion in Pom with the highest scoring routine of the day.  Congratulations to the Varsity Dance Team!

CI Student Showcase

Congratulations!

Rochester High School’s Virtual Enterprise class, along with their sister school Stoney Creek, dominated the State VEI Trade Show at Northwood University on Monday, December 16th. At the trade show, students build and work a trade booth and sell their virtual wares to the conference attendees.  During the event the presentation team also delivered a business plan presentation highlighting the key elements of their business plan in front of judges from the local Midland community.  Both schools scored exceptionally well and participated in the finals.  Stoney Creek kept their title from last year, as the first place winner and Rochester took the second place spot.  Both schools are now eligible to compete at the national Level in New York City in April 2020. On behalf of both schools, Mrs. Katelyn Cryderman (SCHS) and Mrs. Karen Malsbury (RHS) wish their students all the best in the next level of competition.

Rochester Pop Up

Rochester Pop Up was a great sales success at the Rochester Holiday Farmers Market. On Thursday, December 12th students from Mrs. Malsbury’s Small Business class conducted their first Business Pop up. This was in partnership with the Rochester Downtown Development Authority and our sponsor Genisys Credit Union.  In the semester long class, students write a business plan and then prepare to present their product in a trade booth pop up simulation at the Rochester Fire House in Downtown Rochester.  Their salesmanship was evaluated, overall booth presentation and ability to pay their expenses and make a donation to charity.  As you can see from the pictures, they all got an A plus.  At the end of the evening they made $2500 and $750 was donated.  Great job, Business Falcons! Many thanks to all the mentors that assisted the students and to Kristi Trevarrow from the Rochester DDA for her support and vision.  Couldn’t have done it without you!

National Merit Semi-Finalists

Rochester High School is proud to recognize the achievements of 7 of our seniors that qualified in the National Merit Scholarship Program. These outstanding students have scored in the top one percent of 1.6 million students nationwide who took the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQ). “We are proud of these outstanding students for their exceptional academic ability and potential. Through their hard work and dedication, they are true examples of RCS pride in excellence,” said Superintendent Robert Shaner, Ph.D. “We are confident that they will use their talents to make valuable contributions to our community and our country.” RCS National Merit Scholars attend Rochester High School Falcons (RHS), Rochester Adams High School (AHS), and Stoney Creek High School (SCHS).

Emotional Wellness Day

RHS is committed to helping every student keep themselves emotionally healthy, so today was filled with fun activities, good information, and a live entertainment presentation! Also included in today was time to take a “wellness break” at the Wellness Expo held in the mall and the cafeteria! The students got to try out different relaxation techniques and stress relievers, check out what local community wellness organizations offered, and buy snacks from all different kinds of clubs that sold food!

Below is the link where you will find an invitation, information form, and nomination form: https://www.rochester.k12.mi.us/pages/107056/appreciation-eve-2017

Rochester Showcase

Join us for the RHS Showcase, Tuesday, January 14th, 6-7:30 pm, in the auditorium.  Come hear from teachers, counselors and students about the different learning opportunities provided at Rochester High School.  The evening will include a panel discussion on the following RHS learning opportunities and programs:
  • The College Board's Advanced Placement Program® (AP®) is a global program designed and committed to the daily work of developing college-level knowledge and skills. AP enables willing and academically prepared students to pursue college-level studies with the opportunity to earn college credit, advanced placement, or both while still in high school. Rochester Community Schools offers 25 AP courses each culminating in a rigorous assessment, students learn how to examine texts, interpret data, evaluate evidence, construct solid arguments and see multiple sides of an issue.
  • Career Technical Education (CTE) provides students of all ages with the academic and technical skills, knowledge and training necessary to succeed in future careers and to become lifelong learners. In total, about 12.5 million high school and college students are enrolled in CTE across the nation. CTE prepares these learners for the world of work by introducing them to workplace competencies, and makes academic content accessible to students by providing it in a hands-on context. (Careertech.org, 2019)
  • Oakland Schools Technical Campuses (OSTC) 18 programs prepare students who want to graduate high school with industry certifications, on-the-job experiences, business connections and college credits. Through internships, apprenticeships and job shadows, students will learn what it is like to work in their chosen fields before spending thousands of dollars to figure it out in college. The OSTCs are preparing students for the real world through career exploration, hands-on experiences and opportunities to excel through industry competitions and student leadership programs.
We look forward in showcasing our student centered learning environment built on character, citizenship, collaboration, communication, creativity and critical thinking.

Throughout the whole month of January, Rochester High School’s Rotary Interact Club will be holding a Coats for Cupcakes event! Essentially, students will have the opportunity to donate a coat in the counseling office and receive a cupcake in return. The coats that are received as donations will go to the Neighborhood House, which is a non-profit charity organization in Rochester Hills. The coats will then be donated to families who are in need during this winter season. If you have any old coats that you do not need anymore, please bring them in to the counseling office on any day of January!
