RCS COVID-19 Update

Dear RCS Families,
With COVID-19 cases spreading quickly across Michigan and more specifically, Oakland County, we have made the decision to continue serving children in a remote learning environment through Friday, Jan. 15, 2021. As a reminder, there will be no school for students on Jan. 18 and 19.
On Nov. 4, we indicated that our transition to remote learning would be evaluated by Nov. 27. However, as the holidays approach, we recognize the increased need for families to arrange schedules and plan ahead, so we have thoughtfully condensed our timeline.
Although we cannot predict the future, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS), and the Oakland County Health Division (OCHD) indicate that traditional gatherings over the holidays can increase the chances of getting or spreading COVID-19. By the Jan. 15 timeframe, holiday gatherings should have subsided, and we are optimistic that we will see a downward trend in the numbers. Jan. 15 also marks the end of the first semester for our secondary students.
We will continue to evaluate our teaching and learning options and communicate updates as they become available. Student and staff safety will remain our priority.
For tips on how to modify family gatherings to limit risks and slow the spread of COVID-19, please go to:
  • Oakland County Celebrations / Holiday Safety
  • MDHHS Tips for Holiday Gatherings
  • CDC Holiday Celebrations and Small Gatherings
We are grateful for our community’s support and efforts to keep our families, friends and neighbors safe. It is critical that we follow the guidance of our public health officials to wear a mask, keep a safe distance from others who do not live with us, wash hands, and limit indoor gatherings to two households. In doing so, we remain hopeful that our children will be able to return to in-person learning soon.
If you have questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to your building administrator or use the Talk to RCS feature on our website at www.rochester.k12.mi.us.

Sincerely,
Dr. Shaner

 OSTC Update

Dear OSTC-NE Parents and Guardians,
As we continue progressing through this semester, I wish you the best during the upcoming Holiday Season, hoping you are able to rest, relax, and enjoy your families as much as possible and as safely as possible. I also want to emphasize that our staff will continue working hard to provide the best possible experience for students under our current conditions. It has been determined that OSTC will remain virtual until January 15, 2021, which is the end of our first semester. It goes without saying how disappointed we all are that you have yet to experience the full OSTC in-person experience this school year. Our staff does an amazing job working with our students here in the building and we look forward to the day when that work can continue.
Regarding current grades and classwork moving forward, our instructors are doing everything they can to help your students be successful. Having said that please be sure your child continues to do his/her part in order to find success:
  • Please remind your students of the importance of regular attendance during the live lessons. Office hours remain available and your child should know how to access office hours if needed.
  • Please remind your students to actively participate, turn on their camera during Zoom sessions, and ask questions – all strategies that enhance learning!
  • View MiSTAR grades periodically. While teachers should reach out with concerns, the more informed you keep yourself the better. If you are still unaware of how to login to MiSTAR via Parent Portal, please contact Michelle Franklin Michelle.Franklin@oakland.k12.mi.us
  • Below is a link to our staff contacts/emails – reach out as necessary. Please remember we have Social Worker/Student Support Specialist (Mallori Fogler), Social Worker/Student Support Specialist (Rachel Dupuis), Counselor (Randy Maddock), and Special Populations Consultant (Michelle Quarton) available to assist you with various matters; their emails are included on the staff directory link:
https://www.ostconline.com/ostc-ne/staff-directory
  • When possible, check in with your student to be sure they are keeping up with their work and connecting with his or her instructor for additional help as necessary.
Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions and continue to stay safe and be well!

 Band Fundraiser

Dear RHS Families,
Your Rochester High School Falcon marching band is pleased to announce a new fundraiser that will help raise money to send our marching band students to Hawaii in June of 2021, as well as honor the veterans in your life! For a small donation of $10, you can honor your veteran by having their name printed on a custom Falcon Marching Band Veteran Banner that will be proudly displayed throughout the Spring marching band season ("Red, White and Blue" halftime shows, Memorial Day parade, Hawaii performances, and more!)

Please go to this fundraiser-specific page for more details! https://rhsrpms.weebly.com/veteranbanner.html

The veteran's names are printed on the red and white stripes of a banner that will be printed to look like an American flag. Please contact Maria Miceli with any questions at mariamiceli76@gmail.com. Thank you for your support.

Boys Swim & Dive

Any boys interested in joining the Swim and Dive team should email head coach Aaron Helander at aaron.helander1@gmail.com.  Currently the season is paused through December 8th.  More information will be posted if the season starts back up after December 8th.

Rochester Athletic Booster Club Meetings

Booster club meetings will be held on Mondays at 6pm on the following days:
December 14, 2020, January 11, 2021, February 8, 2021, March 8, 2021, April 12, 2021, May 10, 2021, & June 14, 2021.

Rochester Athletic Booster Club supports our Falcon athletes, teams and coaches. Boosters has provided over $25,000 in financial assistance to teams just last year!  We had to cancel our only fundraiser in March due to Covid and membership is very low so far this year. This loss of funding will not only impact the 20-21 seasons but the 21-22 seasons as well. Your membership will help ensure that we have the necessary funds to support our Falcons. Please consider becoming a Booster member or giving a tax-deductible donation. Thank you!
