Spotlight on Instruction

Picture
Mrs. Cosentino’s Integrated Academics Language Arts class, along with Mrs. Cox, School Social Worker, have been unpacking the 7 habits of effective teens. Students explore positivity, work ethics, effort, and more as they set their personal and academic goals for the 2020 New Year. Each student completed a reflection booklet to include both previous and future thinking.  Students reflected and shared positive moments by reflecting on their achievements and accomplishments in 2019.  The process of reflection helped students examine themselves, their attributes, and their experiences to gain insight and see how they might move forward.  Now they are thinking and planning ahead for the 2020 year.  All students were encouraged to spread kindness in their personal and school goals moving forward. Students commented, “I’m very excited for new adventures and new opportunities.”—“I feel responsible and proactive.”---“As we learn new talents, we might find out we’re really good at something.” Peer mentors served as positive role models and added to the conversation, “I’m excited to plan for and try out new experiences before I head off to college.

Robotics at RHS

Picture
It’s that time of year! The FEDS 201 robotics team at Rochester High have been working diligently to create a robot that is able to maneuver, climb, and shoot power cells in order to rack up the most points. On January 5th, the FEDS gathered together in the media center and watched the FIRST Robotics Kickoff 2020 Live Stream. This year’s theme is Infinite Recharge. The FEDS have already been building multiple prototypes to test their methods, and have recreated the course to brainstorm game strategies. The business department has been preparing to give a presentation in order to win a major award called the Chairman’s Award. Overall, the FEDS have been doing an outstanding job over these past few weeks. Wish them luck as they build their bot and get ready for the 2020 FIRST Robotics Competition!

Rotary Club

Throughout the whole month of January, Rochester High School’s Rotary Interact Club will be holding a Coats for Cupcakes event! Essentially, students will have the opportunity to donate a coat in the counseling office and receive a cupcake in return. The coats that are received as donations will go to the Neighborhood House, which is a non-profit charity organization in Rochester Hills. The coats will then be donated to families who are in need during this winter season. If you have any old coats that you do not need anymore, please bring them in to the counseling office on any day of January!
