The Special Education Appreciation Evening (the Sparkle Awards) is upon us!  Save the Date: Wednesday, March 18, 2020 at 7:00 p.m. at Stoney Creek High School auditorium. This is for parents (and students) to nominate a person who works in the district and who has gone above and beyond to help their student who has an IEP. It can be a teacher, bus driver, para professional, security guard, administrator, etc.

Below is the link where you will find an invitation, information form, and nomination form: https://www.rochester.k12.mi.us/pages/107056/appreciation-eve-2017

Rochester Showcase

Join us for the RHS Showcase, Tuesday, January 14th, 6-7:30 pm, in the auditorium.  Come hear from teachers, counselors and students about the different learning opportunities provided at Rochester High School.  The evening will include a panel discussion on the following RHS learning opportunities and programs:
  • The College Board's Advanced Placement Program® (AP®) is a global program designed and committed to the daily work of developing college-level knowledge and skills. AP enables willing and academically prepared students to pursue college-level studies with the opportunity to earn college credit, advanced placement, or both while still in high school. Rochester Community Schools offers 25 AP courses each culminating in a rigorous assessment, students learn how to examine texts, interpret data, evaluate evidence, construct solid arguments and see multiple sides of an issue.
  • Career Technical Education (CTE) provides students of all ages with the academic and technical skills, knowledge and training necessary to succeed in future careers and to become lifelong learners. In total, about 12.5 million high school and college students are enrolled in CTE across the nation. CTE prepares these learners for the world of work by introducing them to workplace competencies, and makes academic content accessible to students by providing it in a hands-on context. (Careertech.org, 2019)
  • Oakland Schools Technical Campuses (OSTC) 18 programs prepare students who want to graduate high school with industry certifications, on-the-job experiences, business connections and college credits. Through internships, apprenticeships and job shadows, students will learn what it is like to work in their chosen fields before spending thousands of dollars to figure it out in college. The OSTCs are preparing students for the real world through career exploration, hands-on experiences and opportunities to excel through industry competitions and student leadership programs.
We look forward in showcasing our student centered learning environment built on character, citizenship, collaboration, communication, creativity and critical thinking.

Rotary Club

Throughout the whole month of January, Rochester High School’s Rotary Interact Club will be holding a Coats for Cupcakes event! Essentially, students will have the opportunity to donate a coat in the counseling office and receive a cupcake in return. The coats that are received as donations will go to the Neighborhood House, which is a non-profit charity organization in Rochester Hills. The coats will then be donated to families who are in need during this winter season. If you have any old coats that you do not need anymore, please bring them in to the counseling office on any day of January!
