SPOTLIGHT ON INSTRUCTION

Picture
Picture
In Mrs. Miesch’s World Religions class, students visited with guest speaker Rabbi Dan Swartz on Oct. 18. Students participated in an hour-long Q&A session with Rabbi Swartz and were able to learn the history behind a Torah he brought in to share with the class. The Torah he shared is over 400 years old and was recovered in Nazi Poland during WWII. In addition to the Torah, he also shared a wooden scroll that was used by Nazi soldiers to catalogue copies of the Torah confiscated from Jewish Synagogues during WWII. The Torah the rabbi shared is in good condition, but can no longer be used in service due to the back of it being blood stained. It is believed that it was stained on purpose by the Nazis so that it would no longer be Kosher and, therefore, unable to be used during services. This presentation gave students an excellent opportunity to learn more about Judaism.
