Seeking Nominations and Logo Designs for Founders Day
Do you know someone who deserves special recognition for their contributions to our school community through PTA/PTSA? Tell us all about them! Each year, the RCS District recognizes and celebrates those who have made meaningful contributions to our school community with six District-wide awards given to those PTA/PTSA members who have gone above and beyond, helped to implement innovative ideas, have been involved in multiple schools and/or programs, demonstrated outstanding leadership, and/or advocated tirelessly for our school community. Your nomination should include the nominee name, a 350-word maximum write-up as to why they are being nominated, along with your name and contact information. Complete the attached nomination form and submit it via email to rhsfday@gmail.com no later than November 22, 2019. For more information about these special District awards, see the attached information sheet. The Founders Day Logo Design Contest is also open now! See the attached form for details and to be completed to accompany all entries which are due the week of December 2, 2019. Individuals may submit more than one design idea, but a separate form should be submitted with each entry. Students are encouraged to participate and a gift certificate will be awarded to the contest winner.

Project Zen Succulent Sale at Holiday Bazaar

Ms.Malsbury’s Virtual Enterprise class made their first appearance as a business at the Holiday Bizarre, hosted here last weekend. Virtual Enterprise aims to bring the workplace into the classroom and teach students through the experience of running a virtual business. This year, the VE company “Project Zen” is selling subscription boxes that provide stress relief by targeting the five senses; one of the most popular products in the box being succulents. Although the business is rooted online, the sales of tangible products, such as succulents, help aid them in reaching fundraising goals. The overall goal set within the company is to reach a profit from their sales of $2000, which will allow them to qualify to attend trade shows in Chicago and New York City.

RHS Non-Perishable Food Drive

Next Week, November 18-22, is Rochester High School's Annual Non-Perishable Food Drive. Our Goal is 5,000 Cans, and we will be collecting each day in the Media Center before, during, and after school.
In addition, before each performance of the musical, we will be collecting cans and money in order to reach our goal.
On Tuesday, we will have a Breakfast Blitz, in which during 1st Hour, classes will race to collect the most money. The class that raises the most gets a Pancake Breakfast provided by Red Olive.
Friday Morning, we will be having our first ever Frappe Friday - Either a Caramel Coffee, Vanilla bean or Double Chocolate Chip Frappuccino will cost 5 cans or $3.
The grade that collects the most cans will receive a prize, so start donating!

MiCareer Quest Field Trip

45 Students from RHS attended a career field trip to Suburban Showplace in Novi, Michigan. It was a career exploration unlike any other, designed to spark students curiosity and introduce them to many of today's most in-demand occupations in southeast Michigan and across the state. If anyone has any questions please see Mrs. Cosentino, Mrs. Messing or Mrs. Malsbury.

Blessings in a Backpack

The Students in Mrs. Cosentino’s class, along with their family members, Mrs. Cox, Ms. Burke, volunteered with packaging up food for our local Blessings in a Backpack organization.   Blessings In a Backpack is a “neighbor-helping-neighbor” program that is designed to help meet the nutritional needs of children and families. Each week, volunteers, distribute bags with enough non-perishable food for the weekend for students in our district.  The goal of the Blessings in a Backpack program is to keep these students from going hungry on the weekends and remove barriers to academic success. We would like to thank Rochester High School parent, Mrs. Kim Williams for coordinating and leading this wonderful organization in our community.

Host an Amity Scholar from Spain!

Are you interested in hosting our visiting Amity Scholar from Madrid? The Amity Institute is a program that builds international friendships and cultural understanding through teaching exchange.  It enhances the foreign language classes by having a native speaker to assist and offer firsthand cultural and language knowledge.  Sebastián Raúl Barnabe is a 23-year old beginning teacher who will need housing with a family from late January through mid-June.  If you would to experience hosting a native speaker and form an international friendship, please contact Beth East at beast@rcs-k12.us . (We can divide the semester between 2 families if needed).

Middle School Robotics Competition

Rochester High School Robotics (FEDS 201), along with Stoney Creek & Adams HS Robotics (CyberCats & Adam Bots) are hosting a middle school robotics competition on Saturday, 11/23. This is a huge undertaking that will likely draw about 500 people to our school, with 36 area teams competing!
We are seeking help from both adults and high school students in two important ways!
1. We are requesting donations of food items for concessions. The profits will help offset costs for the event.
The signupgenius for concession donations is here.
2. We need your help through volunteering (evening before and/or the day of the event)!
Here is the signupgenius link for volunteer slots.
Thank you in advance for your support!

Girls Basketball Important Information

Do you have a daughter who plans to try out for basketball this year?  Please contact our coaching staff and let us know so we can plan accordingly (if you are already on the email list, then you don’t need to do that).  Tryouts start on Monday, November 11th and all girls trying out will need a physical on file.  We look forward to seeing them on the 11th!
Do you have a 6-8th grade daughter who plays basketball?  We will be having our Friday Night Hoops event on Friday, November 15th from 6-11pm.  It’s a fun night of basketball, food, and swimming and we would love to have your daughter there to meet our players and coaching staff.  If you are interested, please email our varsity coach, Bill Thurston, for the Friday Night Hoops flyer.  Thanks!
