Scheduling Parent-Teacher Conferences
Dear High School Parents,
We are pleased to announce that the structure of parent-teacher conferences will be modified across the district at the high school level. Parents will now have the ability to preschedule conferences in ParentVUE, rather than waiting in line to see a teacher.
The fall parent-teacher conferences are scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 10, and Thursday, October 17. (Please note that the printed district calendar does not reflect the change of date to accommodate a religious holiday.)
We are asking parents who are planning to attend conferences to schedule five-minute time slots with the teachers with whom they would like to speak. If a parent does not have any concerns or questions for their son or daughter’s teacher, they do not need to feel obligated to schedule appointments during that time. Also, if a parent feels their concern will require more time than the allotted five minutes, they are welcome to contact the teacher to set up a separate appointment.
Families will have the ability to schedule meetings beginning on October 1st, up until the evening of conferences. If parents are planning to see multiple teachers, we recommend leaving 5-10 minutes between scheduled appointments for travel time.
In order to schedule appointments, it is important for parents to be able to successfully login to ParentVUE. If a parent is having difficulties with their ParentVUE login, they can email ParentVUE support at rcsvuehelp@rochester.k12.mi.us.
We are looking forward to this upgrade in the Parent Teacher Conference process and thank our families for their support.
Sincerely,
Neil DeLuca

Interested in Hosting an International Student?
Are you interested in hosting our visiting Amity Scholar from Madrid? The Amity Institute is a program that builds international friendships and cultural understanding through teaching exchange. It enhances the foreign language classes by having a native speaker to assist and offer firsthand cultural and language knowledge. Sebastián Raúl Barnabe will need housing with a family from late January through mid-June. If you would to experience hosting a native speaker and form an international friendship, please contact Beth East at beast@rcs-k12.us . (We can divide the semester between 2 families if needed).
Spotlight on Instruction
Students in Ms. East’s Spanish classes participated in salsa dancing this Thursday while decked out in their tropical gear for Spirit Week. Ms. East taught her classes with the help of an instructional video and to the tune of traditional salsa music. Students volunteered in pairs, moving to the middle of the classroom while their peers cheered them on. Ms. East thought the timing was perfect for salsa lessons. “We used to always do it before Homecoming to get the kids just having a different cultural dance instead of the same-old moving around and jumping around,” she said. The event ended up to be a smashing success. Quieter kids had the opportunity to move out of their comfort zone and show off their dancing skills. Students exited Mrs. East’s room commenting how fun the experience was. And Mr. Juncaj, the student Spanish teacher, was first exposed to this important cultural dance.

The RHS equestrian team had a great year, coming in fourth overall during our District meet. Kate Faglie has several top notch rides with notable first and second placings in western riding and horsemanship.
Social Studies National Honor Society
RHS's Social Studies National Honor Society requested and was awarded a pop-up display from the National Archives in celebration of the 100th anniversary of the 19th Amendment. Called Rightfully Hers: American Women and the Vote, this display contains messages about the expansion of the vote to women before and after the 19th amendment and its impact today.
In addition to the display, the Social Studies National Honor Society students donated 11 books to the Media Center to commemorate the subject and increase awareness of American women who've impacted history. |
