SPOTLIGHT ON INSTRUCTION

In Mr. Miesch’s Mythology students had the opportunity to learn the creation stories of different cultures. The students were put into five groups, and each group was assigned a different culture. Some of the cultures included were the Scandinavians, Japanese, Polynesians, and Native Americans. Each student had a different role. One student had to take the role as narrator, while the rest of the group had to act out what was being said with the help of costumes and props. After every group presented, the class had a discussion about how each presentation used similar elements. The main purpose of the lesson was to showcase how each culture has similarities regardless of when they began.

SECOND ANNUAL FALCON FRIENDSHIP BASKETBALL GAME

The 2nd Annual Friendship Basketball Game took place on Monday, March 4th.  It was a very memorable and fun night.  Thanks to RHS Students who organized this event; Senior – Elizabeth Bulat and Junior- Alicia Perkins . The event was a huge success.  Everyone had a blast watching the very competitive game that went into overtime. A special thank you to all the volunteers who helped to make the event so special.

KEY CLUB FEEDS THE HUNGRY

Over 100 Key Club students took part in a Kids Against Hunger food packaging event.  This was a large task that we were proud to be a part of.  Key Club paid $2,000 to purchase the food to package.  This money was raised through a portion of membership dues over the years.  For set up,  Mrs. Oppat’s 5th hour Health class and Mr. Fox’s 6th hour PE class were a huge help.  Then after school, over 100 Key Club students were ready to work.  After hairnets and gloves, an assembly line was created.  After about 45 minutes, we had successfully packaged 6,912 meals.  The meals will be taken by military to Yemen, Haiti and also a portion kept locally for need.  Way to go Key Clubbers!  Many hands make light work!

MODEL UN CONFERENCE

Rochester High School’s Model UN team attended the Bloomfield Hills High School and Oakland University Model United Nations conferences over the past two weekends. They were able to discuss global issues, collaborate with students from other schools, debate, and represent their country’s position in committee. They all did an outstanding job!! Vamsi Bidthanpally received an award for ‘Honorable Delegate’ in his committee at the Bloomfield Hills MUN, congratulations!

My name is Camila Rojas and I’m 15 years old. I love being with my family and friends, and meeting all kinds of new people.  I love to play sports, such as skiing, sailing and gymnastics.  I have two cats and adore all animals. In my free time, I usually play the guitar and listen to music.  I have a passion for music and theatre.  I’m very interested in being exposed to new cultures and learning from them.
