SPOTLIGHT ON INSTRUCTION
|
Students in Ms. Lowry's American Sign Language Two, ASL 2, classes are learning how to sing the song "Man In The Mirror" by Michael Jackson. Students voted on the song and between the two ASL 2 classes at RHS "Man In The Mirror" came out on top. Over the course of the year, Ms. Lowry's classes perform songs for other classes in the building. With this song, the class had to "gloss it" (translate) the song themselves and agree upon which signs to use. This is an interesting process for students because ASL concentrates mores on concepts rather than words. Students thought the most difficult parts of this song were the pace and memorizing what signs to use because they are not in order of the English lyrics. Make sure to check back to see the classes performing for RHS!

Rochester High School’s own Sophia Shafkalis and Andrew Smith served as the Junior Grand Marshalls for the 65th Annual Rochester Hometown Christmas Parade. RHS LIBRARY ARTICLE DATABASES
When searching for information on the web, RHS offers our students access to trustworthy, credible resources through subscription-based sites. These sites are online database collections of thousands of published magazines, journals, books, and news sources, both print and multimedia. Each one is provided by either RHS, the Library of Michigan’s Michigan eLibrary, or Rochester Hills Public Library and all are free to our students and families.
Whether your student has a homework assignment, research project, or essay that they’re needing background information for, encourage him or her to search one of the many databases that fits their subject before going to Google or Wikipedia to find reliable, quality information sources. Download a copy of our RHS Library Article Databases sheet for web address and password information, and keep it by the computer as a reminder to make it the first place to look!
