FOREIGN LANGUAGE WEEK

Rochester High School celebrated National Foreign Language Week March 5-9 in all language classes! This year’s theme was “Languages lead us on a path of understanding other cultures.” To celebrate, all students in language classes had the opportunity to complete one activity related to this year’s theme. The activities ranged from creating posters, making t-shirts, cooking authentic food or making a recipe video, creating a music video, performing a poem or dance, or teaching a beginner’s language lesson to other classes. Students were extremely excited to share their projects and learn more about the positive impact that foreign languages and cultures have around the world!

JUNIOR "SAT SPRING TRAINING" AND OFF CAMPUS LUNCH DAY

RHS held an “SAT Spring Training” session for juniors on Tuesday, March 6 to prepare for the upcoming SAT on April 10. Juniors attended for one class period throughout the day and received tips and tricks from our English teachers on how to answer different kinds of questions on the reading and writing sections of the test. For their hard work, all juniors in attendance earned a pass allowing them to go off-campus for lunch on Friday, March 23.

OAKLAND COUNTY TREASURER VISITS AP STUDIO ART

Picture

On March 5, Mrs. Huvaere’s AP art students received a visit from Andy Meisner, the Oakland county treasurer. Mr. Meisner visited the AP Studio Art class to spread awareness about financial wellness and literacy, promote the Oakland County Financial Literacy Contest , and educate students about his job responsibilities as an elected official. Mr. Meisner shared examples of past winning work from the contest, which aims to promote financial literacy through a fascinating platform. The artists then created entries for the contest, which has provided over $60,000 worth of scholarships to winners of the contest in the last 6 years. Andy Meisner hopes to prepare students in becoming “financial ninjas” by teaching students about interest rates, credit card debt and student loans. Pictured are some of the students’ artwork for the competition. Best of luck to the Rochester High School Art students that entered Oakland County Financial Literacy Contest …. Stay tuned for the winners!

RHS TEACHERS AT TEACH TO LEAD SUMMIT

The Business Department of RHS was honored to be invited to the Teach to Lead Summit in Novi on Monday, March 12.  Mrs. Karen Malsbury and Mrs. Kristin Dunneback, prior to the event, submitted a proposal to explore the notion of providing all seniors at RHS an Authentic Career Learning Experience.

This day of collaboration and introspection was priceless.  Our team was able to present our plans to Governor Snyder who encouraged us to not just expose our senior class to this opportunity but to open it up to our juniors.  The Director of Talent and Economic Development, Mr. Roger Curtis supported our ideas with hard evidence from the Marshall Plan. (see below for more details)  We were able to utilize the Logic Model and come up with a compelling Goal to share with all stakeholders in the near future.  The plan is to offer a Authentic Career Learning Experience to all seniors in the 2018-2019 school year.
